Engagements

Six ways in. Every one of them ends in production.

Most engagements start with reporting, because that is where the pain is loudest. What keeps clients is the layer underneath — governed pipelines, predictive models, and the applications where the decision actually gets made. Pick the entry point that matches what is broken today.

Fixed-scope audits start at $9,000 + GST. Most first phases land between $12,000 and $45,000 + GST, and the fractional pod starts at $9,000 a month + GST. Scoping conversations are free, and there's no NDA needed to talk.

The front door

4–6 weeks to first production release

Spreadsheet-to-Power-BI reporting rescue

Typically $12k–$20k + GST, fixed scope

Manual Excel reporting that won't scale, no automation, and a monthly close that eats a week of senior time.

Who it's for
Finance, operations and commercial teams in any sector — the pain is horizontal.
What you end up with
The monthly rebuild disappears. Reporting refreshes itself and the numbers reconcile to source.

How it runs

  1. 01Inventory the spreadsheet estate and the reports people actually use
  2. 02Model the core domain once, in a governed Power BI semantic model
  3. 03Automate refresh with reconciliation tests and alerting
  4. 04Publish the report set, train the owners, hand over documentation

Expands into: Data quality and governance work upstream of the model.

The credibility fix

6–8 weeks per business domain

Metric governance & single-source semantic layer

Typically $25k–$45k + GST per domain

Every team has its own definition of revenue, margin or utilisation, so leadership meetings argue about data instead of decisions.

Who it's for
Organisations with several BI authors and no certified model — usually 200+ staff.
What you end up with
One definition of every number, owned by the business, enforced by the model rather than by memory.

How it runs

  1. 01Audit existing measures and catalogue every conflicting definition
  2. 02Agree certified definitions with the business owners of each metric
  3. 03Build the governed measure library with object- and row-level security
  4. 04Retire the duplicates and put change control around the model

Expands into: Data-quality remediation and access governance across the estate.

The higher-value play

Assessment in 2–3 weeks, phased migration from there

Fabric & modern-stack migration

Assessment $12k–$18k + GST; migration phases from $40k + GST

A legacy BI platform, or a sprawling spreadsheet-and-SQL estate, that can't carry the next three years of reporting or AI.

Who it's for
Technically mature teams already on Azure, or firms consolidating onto Microsoft Fabric.
What you end up with
A governed, observable platform with lineage — and no reporting blackout in transition.

How it runs

  1. 01Assessment: current-state architecture, cost, risk and a sequenced target state
  2. 02Stand up the target platform — Fabric Lakehouse, Snowflake or Databricks on Azure
  3. 03Rebuild transforms as tested code in dbt or Azure Data Factory
  4. 04Migrate reporting domain by domain, running old and new in parallel

Expands into: Warehouse modelling, orchestration, and an ongoing managed-service tail.

The blended senior capability

Monthly retainer, three-month minimum

Fractional data team — retainer pod

From $9k/month + GST, scaled to the days you need

You are trying to hire one person who can do BI, engineering, governance, AI and build the app. That person is not on the market.

Who it's for
Scaling corporates and under-resourced teams that want reporting owned end-to-end.
What you end up with
Four disciplines available the week you need them, without four salaries or a hiring cycle.

How it runs

  1. 01A named senior pod covering BI, data engineering, AI and product engineering
  2. 02A shared backlog you prioritise, delivered in fortnightly increments
  3. 03Standing ownership of pipelines, models and releases
  4. 04Capability transfer as your own hires come on board

Expands into: This is the annuity — the whole model is recurring.

The fixed-scope opener

2 weeks, fixed scope

AI-readiness reporting audit

$9k + GST, fixed fee

There is board pressure to do something with AI, but the reporting layer underneath it can't be reconciled.

Who it's for
Executive teams with an AI mandate and an unproven data foundation.
What you end up with
A defensible answer to “are we AI-ready?” and a sequenced plan instead of a proof-of-concept graveyard.

How it runs

  1. 01Score the estate across data quality, governance, modelling and reporting reliability
  2. 02Identify which AI use cases the current data can actually support
  3. 03Name the specific blockers, with effort and sequence
  4. 04Deliver a costed roadmap your CFO can read

Expands into: Governance remediation first, then predictive modelling and the app layer.

Where the insight gets acted on

4–6 weeks to a usable alpha

Decision application build

Typically $20k–$35k + GST to alpha

The model or dashboard exists, but the decision still happens in email, on paper, or in a spreadsheet nobody governs.

Who it's for
Operations, field and service teams who need to act, approve or capture — not just read.
What you end up with
The decision, the action and the record all happen in one governed place.

How it runs

  1. 01Pick the single highest-friction workflow and design around it
  2. 02Build a role-scoped React application on Supabase with row-level security
  3. 03Wire write-back into the governed data platform, with audit trails
  4. 04Extend to offline-tolerant field capture as a Progressive Web App where needed

Expands into: Embedded analytics, model-in-the-loop scoring, and platform work behind it.

How we price

Three commercial shapes. No pre-sales layer, no bench to feed.

Fixed-scope assessment

Audits and readiness reviews are quoted as a fixed fee with a fixed deliverable date. You know the cost before we start.

Phased build

Delivery work is broken into priced phases, each ending in something in production. You can stop after any phase.

Monthly retainer

The fractional pod is a flat monthly fee for a named senior capacity, with a three-month minimum and 30 days' notice.

Fixed-scope audits start at $9,000 + GST. Most first phases land between $12,000 and $45,000 + GST, and the fractional pod starts at $9,000 a month + GST. Scoping conversations are free, and there's no NDA needed to talk. You will always know the price and the deliverable before a phase begins.

Where our credibility comes from

DataHorizon is a new firm. The delivery record behind it is not.

Named, contactable referees during scoping — not a logo wall.
